Analytical Reflection on Oral Presentation

Looking back on the presentation, I felt that it has been a positive experience overall. As a group, Claustrophobic has learnt a lot. I have learnt more about myself as a presenter and I am now more conscious of myself when giving a presentation. Additionally, I feel that Zhouzhi and XueLe has improved tremendously since the start of the term and I am glad for them.

Going into specifics, I have received feedback from my peers that I tend to pace around too much. I did so to help myself cope with the nervousness. I understand now that it could be distracting for the audience. I have also received comments that I came off as a little 'too casual'. The team and I had done multiple runs of the presentation in an informal setting. I believe this has resulted in some of my informal quirks surfacing up during my final presentation. I agree with the criticisms, and I will make a conscious effort minimize my unnecessary movements and to keep an appropriate tone in the future.

Regarding the structure and content of our presentation, we have received feedback that it was centered too much around our report. While we had understood that our presentation was separate from our report, we had crafted our presentation around imparting the key points of the report to the audience. Hence, we had an itemized list of things we wanted to talk about which resulted in a structured almost reiterative presentation. Learning from this experience, I will try to focus future presentations around the message i want to convey, rather than reiterating the points of a report.

Overall, I have learnt a lot from this experience. I am sure that the skills that we have picked up over the term will be applicable for our other modules, and when we graduate and join the workforce in the future.

  1. Hi Jerome!

First thing first, good job in your presentation and the showcase! I am glad to hear that you and your peers have gained so much from this module and ultimately, it's a fruitful experience for you and I. And yes, it kinda got distracting when you are rocking and swaying during your presentation, but I can totally relate to you with the nervousness. I think these are the little things that we tend to oversee and not realise, and it is great that through this modules, we are able to identify these small problems and reactify it. At the end of the day, we are all here to learn together! Let's imrpvoe together Jerome and all the best for exams!!

    Best regards,
    Jieming
